HCM City vows to aid Japanese tech corp Nidec

HCM City has promised all assistance to Japanese technology corporation Nidec, the developer of the Sai Gon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP), for speeding up work to build a research centre and other facilities for the city-based complex.

At a meeting with Nidec chairman Shigenobu Nagamori, who called on him on Wednesday, municipal Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai listed four areas in which the city will help.

With Nidec planning to build a research centre close to the park, authorities will help the company find a suitable location and recruit personnel and train them for it.

The city will also find land near the park for Nidec to build housing for between 2,000 to 3,000 of its staff.

Nidec said it would in turn assist HCM City in developing the support industry in sectors like electronics and machine components.

It plans to send young Vietnamese staff to Japan for training and invite Vietnamese experts in Japan to work in the park.

Since 2005, the firm has invested US$500 million in the SHTP.

Before coming to HCM City, Nagamori had been in Ha Noi where he called on President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Triet appreciated Nidec for developing the SHTP. Viet Nam’s policy was to create a sustainable developed economy and development of hi-tech zones was a priority in that regard, he said.

It would create favorable conditions for hi-tech development, he promised, and called on Nidec and other companies to continue investing in Viet Nam. — VNS
