HCM City targets US$3.15 billion in tourism revenue by 2015
Ho Chi Minh City has set a yearly target of hosting four million foreign visitors by 2015, helping the country’s economic hub to rake in VND60 trillion (US$3.15 billion) from tourism services, said a city official.
At a ceremony in HCMC on July 8 to mark the 50th anniversary of the country’s tourism industry, Nguyen Thi Hong, Deputy Chairwoman of the municipal People’s Committee, said tourism is one of the nine service sectors to which the city is giving priority.
To achieve its target, Hong said the city is taking steps to promote its image, encourage cooperation with other localities and foreign countries and develop human resources for the service industries.
In addition, the city will speed up the implementation of tourism infrastructure projects and help local travel companies become more competitive.
The city expects 3 million foreign visitors this year and gross revenues of over VND40 trillion (US$2.1 billion).
