HCM City set to host engineering exhibition

Two exhibitions, one on parts manufacturing for various industries and the other on machine tools and metalworking, will be held simultaneously in HCM City next October.

The Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in HCM City and the HCM City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), organisers of the ancillary-industries event, signed a contract on Thursday with Reed Tradex, the organiser of the other exhibition, to confirm co-location of the two at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in District 7.

The support industries exhibition, to feature around 100 Japanese and domestic companies mainly in the automobile, motorcycle, electronics and some other industries, is aimed at helping raise Vietnamese content in manufactured products, Nguyen Tri Ngoc, ITPC’s deputy director, said.

Yoshida Sakae, JETRO managing director in HCM City, said around 1,200 Japanese companies operate in Viet Nam, half of them in manufacturing, and they need locally sourced feedstock and parts to reduce costs. They depend a great deal on imports now.

The exhibition on machine tools and metal working technology, Metalex Viet Nam, will bring together 500 well-known brands from 25 countries and territories, including Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Turkey, and the UK, Nichapa Yoswee, Reed Tradex’s managing director, said.

On display will be new machinery and technologies used in welding, factory automation, moulds and dies, wire and tube technology, control measurement, tools and tooling, and others.

There will be a “Hi-Tech Zone” showcasing modern machinery and technologies and a “Robot Demonstration Zone” to highlight the extraordinary capacity of new industrial robots.

The combination of two expos “will create an all-under-one-roof meeting centre for the manufacturing community,” Yoswee said, noting that buyers and sellers would meet, exchange knowledge and ideas, discover technologies they need and develop business networks.

Around 7,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day event, which will run from October 7-9. — VNS
