HCM city CPI rises 1.61% in Feb 2011

Ho Chi Minh City consumer price index (CPI) is estimated to have increased by 1.61% on-month and 9.22% on-year in February 2011 on demand-push factors on a long Tet holiday, the online newspaper VnExpress reported on February 21, citing the city’s Statistics Office.

Drinks and cigarette saw the highest increase of 3.45%, followed by entertainment and tourism with 2.58%, food and restaurant service with 2.48%, other services with 2%, the the city’s Statistics Office said.

The prices of food including meat, vegetable and fruit, seafood have rose sharply by 3% as the domestic demand surged on the traditional New Year festival.

Higher domestic gold and dollar prices and a 15.28% increase of electricity prices from March 1 has pressured on the city’s price level. – Stoxplus.com
