HCM City bids to save power
The HCM City Power Corporation has implemented several measures to save power, while the city is being forced to deal with massive energy shortages.
The city will be short 1.1 million KWh a day. HCM City’s daily consumption demand is 44.6 million KWh.
Under the Viet Nam Electricity Group’s distribution plan, the city is provided with 43.5 million kWh a day. HCM City is the largest consumer of energy in the country.
The corporation has instructed its member companies to increase the number of inspections and to talk with their customers about their consumption patterns.
The member companies are also reviewing their list of priority customers, which includes hospitals and military units.
The HCM City Public Lighting Company has adjusted its use of street lights in order to reduce their current consumption of energy by 50 percent.
Le Van Phuoc, the corporation’s director, said power companies will apply restrictions on new industrial production facilities that have a capacity of 5MW or more until the end of June. Production companies will not be allowed to buy more power than what their registered demands have detailed.
The corporation will also distribute more information about energy conservation to local residents and production units, Phuoc said.
The corporation has also encouraged companies to use generators during power outages and asked residents to conserve energy.
If households and administrative units reduce their consumption of energy by 6 percent, then they will save more than 1 million kWh a day, Phuoc said. He added that these measures would help the city deal with its energy deficit.
Households and administrative units now consume about 18 million kWh a day.
According to relevant agencies, hydropower plants will not operate at their full capacity due to the current drought.
