Hau River Electrical Centre under construction

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) on July 18 began construction of the Hau River Electrical Centre in Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province.

The 260-ha project includes a central area, a management house, and a system of ports and electricity and water supplies.

There are three coal-fired thermal power plants: Hau River 1, 2 and 3 with a total investment of VND3,983.3 billion.

It is expected to lay the foundation for the construction of the Hau River 1 Thermal Power Plant in 2011 with a total capacity of 1,200 MW.

Nguyen Quoc Khanh, PVN Vice CEO said this is an important project for PVN’s development strategy to raise the group’s design capacity to 9,000 MW by 2015, accounting for 25-30 percent of the nation’s volume.
