Hanoi residents use internet most

Vietnam Report Company has released a report on internet using behaviours in Vietnam. The report analyses and assesses routines and access frequency of internet users as well as generalise their feedbacks on the quality of popular e-newspaper websites in Vietnam, aiming to help news agencies to improve their quality of information and contents to serve readers better and help companies to find out effective communication channels to support their marketing and branding activities in the digital era.

The report, which was carried out in two months (September and October), surveyed 4,924 internet users in Vietnam. Surveyed news websites included Vnexpress, Vietnamnet, Dantri, Tuoitre, Thanhnien, Vnmedia, Zing, 24h and Vtc.

Readers of electronic newspapers mainly resided in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which accounted for 36.4 % and 21.7 %, respectively, while other localities had small %ages, mostly below 5 %! Thus, it seemed most electronic news readers lived in the two largest economic, political and cultural centres in the country. Hanoi nearly doubled Ho Chi Minh City in news readers. The spill-over effect of IT applications in the north was better than in the south, with 62 % and 38 %, respectively.

Amongst nearly 5,000 interviewees, 17.9 % are civil servants, followed by students with 14.7 % and engineers with 10.3 %. Remarkably, only 6.8 % are teachers.

Concerning the information content, the updating is rated highest with 34.6 % of ayes while the objectivity is rated worst. Apart from updating criteria, the accuracy and the message of information are the most elements of the electronic information quality. – VCCI
