Hanoi hosts ASEAN Business and Investment Summit

The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit opened in Hanoi on October 27 with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

The summit attracted the ASEAN Secretary General Surin Pitsuwan, and representatives from hundreds of leading businesses in Vietnam, ASEAN and partner countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the opening ceremony a common market and a united economic space were being formed in line with national trade regulations and the ability to regulate macroeconomic policies among ASEAN members.

Programmes and plans to build an ASEAN community, including a general plan on ASEAN linking that leaders will approve will create more opportunities to promote trade and investment in developed regions, he said. They will also make a link between ASEAN and Southeast businesses, step up labour assignment, improve regional competitiveness, create more jobs, narrow the development gap and strengthen social stability.

PM Dung said he hoped businesses would grasp programmes and policies that ASEAN governments have created to enhance linking and promote business and investment activities.

He called on all participants to discuss common challenges and ASEAN policies to build a close and strong ASEAN community.

PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam and other ASEAN countries will strengthen co-operation to facilitate investors, contributing to building an economic pillar from the ASEAN community. – VOV
