Hanoi has another 11 industrial zones in next five years

Hanoi has planned to build another 11 industrial zones and hi-tech parks in the next five years (2010-2015) to attract domestic and foreign investment.

Nguyen Xuan Chinh, Head of the Hanoi Industrial and Export Processing Zone Management Board, confirmed this at its 15th anniversary celebration in Hanoi on November 18.

The new industrial zones and hi-tech parks will be well equipped with transport facilities, post offices, gas and electricity stations, healthcare and education and training centres, boarding houses and service areas.

Currently, Hanoi has 19 industrial zones and hi-tech parks, covering 7,526 hectares. It has attracted 518 projects with total registered capital of VND11,600 billion and US$3,560 million. On average one hectare of industrial land draws VND95.2 billion of registered investment capital, equal to US$4.8 million.

360 investment projects have been put into operation with an estimated turnover of US$3.5 billion to stimulate the capital’s economic growth.

Many belong to leading economic groups in the world, including Canon, Panasonic and Meiko.

According to official statistics, the industrial zones make up 40 percent of Hanoi’s total industrial production value, over 45 percent of the city’s export turnover and 20 percent of its GDP. – VOV
