Ha Noi’s export turnover leaps 38% in January

Ha Noi’s January exports increased 37.6 per cent against the same period last year to US$744 million thanks to the ongoing recovery of the global economy, estimated the Ha Noi Statistics Office.

They attributed the rise to the surging demand in the country’s largest import markets—the US, Japan, and the EU.

The office reported that many key export staples saw high growth rates this month. Electronics topped the list with a 72.6 per cent rise. Garment and textile, and computer components and peripheral devices followed with 54.5 per cent and 42.2 per cent, respectively.

The capital’s export turnover last year reached nearly $8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 26.3 per cent as the city penetrated major export markets, such as the EU, the US, Japan, China and the ASEAN region, along with new potential markets of Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

The city last year also focused on potential export items, including agricultural products, garment and textile, electronics, computer components, peripheral devices, glass and handicrafts.

Municipal authorities said besides speeding up the administrative procedures reforms related to export and import activities, they would also create favourable conditions for the city’s exporters and producers to get access to credit this year in a move to boost the city’s exports.

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade’s Industrial Division Trinh Thi Ngan said the city had also planned to develop its key industrial items, which accounted for 10 per cent of the city’s export turnover last year. — VNS
