H1 unemployment rate falls
The labour force of Vietnam during the first six months of 2011 fell compared with the same period of last year, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Vietnam reported, citing data of the General Statistics Office (GSO).
The country now has 46.4 million people at labour age, down 7,200 against one year earlier. In which, 24.6 million are male, rising by 42,600 and 21.8 million are female, down 49,800 year on year.
The unemployment rate in the reporting period is estimated at 2.58% against 2010’s 4.1%, particularly 3.96% in urban areas, 2.02% in rural areas. The temporary (seasonal) jobless rate of people at working age was 3.9%, 2.15% in urban and 4.6% in rural areas during the first half of 2011 because a part of the labour group stopped working before and after Tet holiday.
The number of the employed in Jan-June is estimated at 49.2 million people, increasing 171,000 compared with average of 2010, of which 48.6% works in agriculture, forestry and seafood; 21.2% works in industry and construction; and 30.2% works in services, according to data of GSO.
After surveying over 4,237 industrial producers, the number of workers in the sector in June surged 1% slightly against May; +0.3% in state enterprises, +1.3% in non-state firms, and +1.3% also in FIEs.
The number of the employed in the processing and manufacturing sector soared 1.1%, mining +0.3% between May and June.
The number in some provinces/cities between the two months also rose slightly, namely Bac Ninh +4.5%, Hai Duong +2.6%, Ba Ria-Vung Tau +2.1%, HCM City +1.1%, Vinh Phuc +0.7%, Binh Duong +0.7%, Dong Nai +0.6%, Can Tho +0.5%, and Hai Phong +0.5%. – Vietbiz24
