Gov’t calls for nuclear power preparation
The Government has urged good preparations for the country’s first nuclear power plant, slated to open in central Ninh Thuan Province in 2014.
During a field visit to the construction site last Friday, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked for more efforts to start work on site clearance, basic infrastructure and human resources development.
Hai said work should proceed efficiently on roads and water supply, as well as resettling residents who gave up land for the project.
The National Assembly late last year passed a resolution on the construction of a 4,000MW nuclear power plant project in the province’s Thuan Nam and Ninh Hai districts, with investment of VND200 trillion (US$10.5) from Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN), the main investor in the two plants.
EVN is conducting the process of partner selection from Russia for the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant No 1 in Thuan Nam District, which is expected to kick off in 2014 and have its maiden trial run in 2020.
The Government will report to the NA for the kick-off date of Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant No 2 in Ninh Hai District following the preparations made on the Plant No 1, according to the Government’s website. —VNS
