Government authorises EVN to purchase higher cost power
Permanent deputy prime minister Nguyen Sinh Hung has requested EVN to mobilise all power sources, including higher price sources.
Besides mobilising power from internal sources of the corporation, deputy prime minister has also ordered EVN to purchase power from independent sources, customers’ backup power sources and import power in order to enhance the electricity supply and minimise power shortage.
He has also requested EVN to focus on directing and administrating thus ensuring maximum capacity and efficiency of power supply. When there is imbalance between supply and demand, EVN should put in priority the responsibility of management authority to power consumers, coordinating with other departments and local authorities to make plan to regulate additional charges, minimise losses in production, business and living activities.
In addition, the government has ordered Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group and Vietnam National Petroleum Corporation to ensure adequate and stable fuel supply for power plants following EVN’s instructions, in order to offer the maximum capacity in power sources.
Particularly, after the occurrence of power cuts on a large scale in the recent time, the deputy prime minister has required EVN to report the level of negative impact from power cuts before 15 July. In the report, there should be a summation of the power cut situation, reasonableness, fairness and level of negative impact on production, business and lives of people.
In addition, deputy prime minister has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to assess the implementation of the sixth power planning; and analyse the main reasons leading to the shortage in power supply in recent time, including disadvantages of the mechanism, proposed solutions to speed up power sources construction, thus ensuring to meet the demand for electricity of the economy, report to the prime minister in July.
The deputy prime minister, additionally, has made request to EVN to urgently direct new power plants into stable operation, speed up construction of power plants, to ensure no power shortage in the years after.
Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible for conducting regular supervisions and inspections on the implementation of the prime minister’s directives on strengthening the measures to ensure electricity supply in the months of the dry season in 2010.
