Google sees Chrome OS release in ‘late fall’

Google expects to release its Chrome computer operating system in the “late fall” of 2010, as it looks to compete with rival Microsoft’s Windows, a top executive said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Computex PC show, Sundar Pichai, Google’s vice-president for product management, did not give a specific month, referring only to the North American autumn or fall period.

He reiterated that Chrome will be designed initially to work on laptop PCs.
