German group opens quality-testing lab

A German quality-testing company opened in HCM City’s Tan Binh Industrial Park yesterday a laboratory that will offer testing, inspection and certification services to textile and footwear (softlines) products.

“The opening is a significant milestone for the company. It will support Viet Nam’s export sector and enhance job creation in the manufacturing sector,” Manfred Bayerlein, chief operations officer and board member of TUD SUD AG, the German company, said.

The laboratory is expected to help Vietnamese manufacturers achieve international quality and safety norms.

It costs several million US dollar and is equipped with modern machines and technology to provide chemical testing, performance and quality testing, and regulatory testing, including flammability testing and fiber label identification in the softlines market.

The laboratory will initially train 20 Vietnamese staff before hiring a total of 200.

“By getting their products tested and certified by an independent third party, Vietnamese manufacturers will be able to provide greater assurance to their clients regarding the quality and safety of their products,” Suresh N Somou, general director of TUV SUD PSB Viet Nam, said.

On the occasion of the opening, the company also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Quality Assurance and Testing Centre 3.

The MOU is meant to encourage co-operation and exchange of technical information and expertise in the areas of testing, inspection and product certification, and standards and regulations for products that are controlled in various countries.

TUV SUD provides solutions for product quality and safety testing and inspection, engineering support, management system certification, and training. —VNS
