Gas sector to be brought to order

The Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnam Gas Association have reached an agreement to curb crime and bad working practices in the gas business.

Under the deal, the gas association will provide the Economic Police Department with the legal parameters for the production and trading of gas, and will periodically update the department with information about any breaches of the law.

For its part, the investigation agency will work alongside the association to monitor establishments that are known to illegally fill bottles and canisters with gas, counterfeit brand names, modify the structure of used gas bottles, and use gas bottles for other illegitimate purposes.

Based on information supplied by the association, the Economic Police immediately investigate any reported incidents.

In recent years, the gas market has mushroomed in Vietnam, with many hundreds of new businesses, consuming up to 1.2 million tonnes of gas per year. However, the state management of this sector has not yet caught up with its development, resulting in many serious violations that have negatively affected the rights of legitimate businesses and compromised the rights and safety of consumers.
