Forum on Logistics and Seaport services held on Mar 30

The People’s Committee of Ba Ria Vung Tau province, the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation and Multilateral Trade Assistance Project Vietnam III (MUTRAP III) jointly held the forum on Vietnam’s Logistics and Seaport services in the context of international economic integration.

This is part of the activities within the framework of the international economic integration programme during the 2011‐2015 period. It aims at creating a multi‐dimensional forum to deliberate opportunities and challenges in implementing integration commitments related to trade logistics and seaport services of Vietnam in general and of Ba Ria Vung Tau in particular.

The forum was based on the direction of prime minister Nguyen Tan Dung on his visit in Ba Ria Vung Tau province in August 2010.

Logistics plays an important role in determining the competitiveness of industry and trade of each country. Developing logistics services is important, it ensures that the production and business operation could meet the time and quality requirement of other types of services. Well‐developed logistics can provide the ability to reduce costs and improve service quality. Currently, logistics is recognised as a major economic function, an effective tool that brings success to businesses in both manufacturing and service sectors.

International experts from Singapore, Germany and the UK presented successful development experiences gathered from some countries in the region and in the world.

In addition, they proposed measures to help Ba Ria Vung Tau in particular and Vietnam in general to have right orientation in the strategy to develop sustainable logistics and high competitiveness in the region and the world. Prof Dr Vo Dai Luoc, Dr Tran Dinh Thien and many experts in the field of logistics in the country shared their own views regarding the development strategy in line with the Vietnam’s commitments when joining WTO as well as with the trade agreements with other partners.

The forum has drawn attention of many international organisations in Vietnam, about 400 representatives of businesses operating in the field of logistics and seaport services, foreign investors and financial investment funds.

This important event has also received the attention of sponsors, including VIETSOPETRO joint venture, PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), Drilling Mud Joint Stock Corporation (DMC), Cai Mep International Terminal Company Limited (CMIT), Military Bank (MB), Ba Ria Joint Stock Company of Service for Import Export of Agro Forestry Products and Fertilisers (Baria Serece), Cai Mep New Port, Lloyd’s Register Asia, Thanh An Coporation (Multi‐Batalion 11), Saigon New Port, and Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam. – Vietbiz24
