Food information base to be developed

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the development of a new food security information system.

The eight-year project, scheduled to begin next year and worth VND35 billion ($1.7 million), is aimed at providing detailed data for national food security policy implementation.

As part of the project, systems based on market supply, market demand and food policies are planned to be set up.

The first system is expected to collect information related to weather changes, climate, plant disease, animal disease as well as food production.

The second system will gather information on the demand for food worldwide, especially that which Vietnam exports in large quantities.

The third system is expected to provide wholesale and retail prices of both domestic and international food.

In addition, information on foreign food security policies will also be made available.
