Fishermen cut trips to save petrol costs

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam visited the southern province of Kien Giang on Tuesday to evaluate the effects on fishermen caused by the price hike of petrol.

The province leads nationwide with more than 11,990 fishing boats with a total capacity of 1.4 million CV. Ten per cent of the boats are idle due to the high price of petrol.

Diesel fuel has increased by 6,300 dong per litre, causing the cost of a sea voyage to go up by 40 per cent, while the selling price of seafood has increased by only 10 per cent. – VNS
