First thermal power plant of Vietnam’s western region starts construction
PetroVietnam, the national oil and gas group, on January 5 kicked off construction on first 1,200MW thermo power plant in the western province of Soc Trang following the completion of its central infrastructure. Attending the ceremony was deputy prime minister Truong Vinh Trong.
The plant is located in Long Phu 1, Long Duc Commune, Long Phu Dist, Soc Trang. It is a part of Long Phu Electricity Centre in Power Project VI with total designed capacity of 4,400MW, which had been approved by prime minister. In which, apart from Long Phu 1, Long Phu 2 thermo powr plan has a capacity of 1,200MW and Long Phu 3 with 2,000MW.
Long Phu 1 is built on a site of 115 hectares by Hau river. EPC contractor of the plant is PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), an affiliate of PetroVietnam, leading the group of domestic EPC contractors in conjunction with foreign equipment suppliers with the EPC contract value of $1.2 billion for designing, purchasing and construction.
According to PetroVietnam, the first 600MW turbine of Long Phu 1 thermal power plant will put into commercial operation and the similar second turbine will be operational by 2015 in a bid to produce 7.8 billion kWh a year for the national grid.
