First phase of Lai Chau hydropower plant completed

Up to the end of September, Muong Te Dist People’s Committee has announced to complete the ground clearance works so as to prepare for starting up construction on Lai Chau Hydropower Plant.

Ly Anh Hu, chair of Muong Te Dist People’s Committee revealed that the local authority has already finished moving 49 households with 189 people to the resettlement area. Up to now, 30 households have finished re-building their houses. The compensation and resettlement management board was measuring and identifying the landowners of over 900 hectares so as to make compensation for the local people.

Lai Chau Hydropower Plant was the third largest projects in Vietnam with total investment capital of about 33 trillion dong. The construction was expected to be started in late 2010 and finished by 2016. After being put into operation, the hydropower plant, with designed capacity of 1,200 MW, is supposed to supply – KTVN & The Gioi
