First nuclear power training program in Vietnam

The Electric Power University Monday launched a new course on nuclear power, energy and environment for Southeast Asia countries.

Southeast Asian countries are planning to introduce nuclear power plants but are handicapped with insufficient trained human resources in the field of nuclear power, energy and environment, particularly in universities and educational institutions.

On October 31, 2010 the prime ministers of Vietnam and Japan agreed to make Japan the cooperation partner for the second nuclear power plant construction project in Vietnam, scheduled to start commercial operations by 2021. One of the primary conditions for this project was cooperation in human resource development in the field of nuclear energy.

Presently, there is much worldwide concern and interest in both energy and environment. In order to operate nuclear power more safely and avoid risks, knowledge and technology amassed to date must be passed on, with particular light to the recent Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant incident. At the same time, human resource development of specialized education and training is imperative. – SGGP
