FAO to assist Vietnam to control aquatic diseases
Officials of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and Vietnam have discussed assistance for the building of a network to prevent and control diseases in aquaculture in Vietnam .
FAO Assistant Director General for Fisheries and Aquaculture Arni M. Mathiesen and Deputy Director General of FAO Fisheries Department Rohana Subasinghe met with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam in Sri Lanka on July 29.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Meeting of Asian Ministers in Charge of Aquaculture to which the officials attended.
The FAO officials have pledged to work with the Vietnamese side on specific measures to be taken to control aquatic diseases once receiving FAO experts’ final report on aquatic diseases, especially on shrimp and oysters in the country. -VIR
