Exports to Japan accounts for nearly 7pct of Vietnam’s GDP

Vietnam’s export to Japan reached $6.3 billion in 2009. Vietnam is amongst top countries with the highest export turnover to Japan.

After the earthquake, tsunami on March 11 and the nuclear disaster afterward, Japan has suffered heavy losses, estimated at more than $300 billion with thousands of dead, missing and homeless.

The impacts of the earthquake will not be limited in Japan. The damages for ports, railway, power plants, oil refineries and the faith of the consumer have interrupted the countryʹs import operations.

The question raised is which countries will be affected the most from the decline of the Japanese economy?

Currently, many countries around the world consider Japan as the strategic export market which can bring the great value to the economy.

The reconstruction process in Japan is expected to bring more opportunities of gaining profits for major exporters to Japan.

Of which, taking the leading will be Brunei with the current export turnover to Japan at over 28 percent of its GDP. Like Quatar, the United Arab Emirates Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Brunei’s export included oil and gas that will benefit from the nuclear disaster in Japan.
