Exports to Canada increases by 23.1 pct in the first eight months of 2010

Exports of Vietnam to Canada in August reached $87 million, up by 4.8 percent from the previous month and by 35.9 percent compared to the same period of last year. Total exports of Vietnam to Canada in the first eight months of 2010 reached $502.3 million, up by 23.1 percent over the same period of last year, accounting for 1.1 percent of the total national exports in the first eight months of 2010.

Garment and textile took the leading position in export turnover of Vietnam to Canada in the first eight months of 2010, reaching $143 million, up by 18.6 percent compared to the same period of 2009, accounting for 28.5 percent of the total exports. Footwear of all kinds took the second position, reaching $68.5 million, up by 13.3 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 13.6 percent of the total exports; followed by aquatic products with $67 million in turnover, up by 4.5 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 13.4 percent of the total exports.

In the first eight months of 2010, Vietnam had seen strong growths in some export products. Exports of rubber reached $3.4 million, up by 294 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 0.7 percent of the total exports; followed by exports of wood and wooden products, which reached $54.5 million, up by 86.3 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 10.9 percent of the total exports. Glass and glass products followed with $1.9 million in turnover, up by 62.4 percent over the same period, accounting for 0.4 percent of the total exports.
Vegetables and fruits gained $4.8 million turnover, up by 47.5 percent over the same period, accounting for one percent of the total exports.

Conversely, turnover a number of export items of Vietnam to Canada declined in the first eight months of 2010. Exports of coffee were $2.6 million, down by 21 percent against the same period of 2009, accounting for 0.5 percent of the total exports; followed by confectionary and cereal products, which reached $2.4 million in turnover, down by 10 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 0.5 percent of the total exports. Exports of plastic materials reached $4 million, down by 1.1 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 0.8 percent of the total exports; followed by ceramic and porcelain, which reached $2.6 million in turnover, down by 0.4 percent over the same period of 2009, accounting for 0.5 of the total exports. – Vinanet
