Eximbank purchases 1,000 tael of gold after two weeks of launching incentives

After two weeks of launching the incentives programme of buying gold with 100,000 dong higher price against the quoted forex rate, Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Eximbank-EIB) bought about 1,000 taels of gold from customers, Thanh Nien newspaper quoted Dinh Thi Thu Thao, Eximbank’s deputy general director as saying on May 26.

However, according to Thao, the total purchase or deposits of gold from customers was not higher than the sales or withdrawal of gold. Customers still tended to withdraw gold from banks to keep at home or make deposit at other banks with higher saving rate.

Together with Eximbank, some other banks also bought gold with 0.15-0.4 percent higher price than the quoted forex rate such as SCB, and VietABank. But, they still find it hard to buy gold. – Thanhnien
