EVN Hanoi, Indochina Telecom to jointly share network infrastructure
EVN Hanoi Corp (EVN Hanoi) and Indochina Telecommunication Joint Stock Co (Indochina Telecom) on April 20 signed a cooperation contract to jointly develop and use the telecommunication network infrastructure in Hanoi.
Under the signed contract, the two signatories together will develop and use the telecommunication network infrastructure including base transceiver stations (BTS), broadcast columns, and whole current optical cable transmission lines of EVN Hanoi to prepare for the launching of Wimax 4G service and other telecommunications services in Hanoi in Q3 this year.
This partnership will enable Indochina Telecom to develop and use the completed telecommunications infrastructure system for the equipment installation and full coverage in Hanoi area, to quickly provide high-speed wireless data transmission services to meet the needs of customers in Hanoi.
In 2011, Indochina Telecom will deploy more than 100 BTS for Wimax 4G service and then it would be 500 BTS in the following years. Indochina Telecom expects to officially launch the Wimax service in Hanoi in Q3 this year and then expand in HCM City in 2012.
Indochina Telecom is the eighth mobile network being licensed in Vietnam. In May 2010, Indochina Telecom was licensed to establish and provide terrestrial mobile telecommunication service utilising the Wimax technology and marked the tenth enterprise getting Wimax licence in Vietnam together with the others such as VNPT, Viettel, VTC, FPT Telecom, CMC and EVN Telecom.
Wimax is a broadband wireless access technology that could increase the data transmission speeds up to 70 Mbs with the operation scope from two to 10 kilometres in the urban areas and 50 kilometres in the remote areas.
This technology allows faster wireless Internet connections than WiFi, using more applications, and especially wider coverage and it is not affected by topography. – Vietnamplus
