EVN gets nod for Ninh Thuan wind power plant

State-owned Electricity of Vietnam has gained the government’s approval to build a pilot wind power plant with a capacity of 30 megawatts in the central province of Ninh Thuan.

In a note sent to EVN and relevant ministries on Monday, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the former to consider expansion of building wind power plants to other localities during construction of the trial project.

He also asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to work with Danish officials and other donors to fund the project.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, 8.6 percent of the country’s land area has good potential to develop wind power projects but this energy source has been left untapped so far.

The only wind power plant in Vietnam is located in the central province of Binh Thuan. The US$60 million plant has a capacity of 30 megawatts.
