EVN Buys 2.19 Billion kWh of Power from Oil-fueled Plants in May
The state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) bought a combined 2.19 billion kWh of electricity from oil-fueled power plants in May though power prices of these plants are between four times and five times higher than other plants, said EVN Deputy General Director Dang Hoang An.
The group bought 1.86 billion kWh from FO-fueled power plants and 330 million kWh from DO-fueled plants during the month, jumping 249% and 290% on year, respectively.
EVN, the national sole power distributor, bought 400 million kWh from FO-fueled plants and 57 million kWh from DO-fueled plants in April, An attributed.
The group has tried its best to ensure power supply for the national economy and the country’s power shortage will be eased from mid-June when hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 6,500 MW will generate more electricity thanks to the rising water levels at hydropower lakes, he noted.
He added that despite power shortage, the national power loss rate is still 9.21% and EVN will strive to reduce it to 8% in 2012.
In the first five months of this year, EVN supplied 37.912 billion kWh, up 18.65% on year, including a combined 15.16 billion kWh bought from local and foreign sources, up 38.05% on year.
Recently, the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) said EVN has not yet mobilized all available power sources to boost supply despite more power shortages as it decided to slash oil-fueled power generation capacity as well as reduce power purchases from those power plants since April 19.
