EU continues to assist Vietnam
The European Union (EU) will continue to assist Vietnam, said Sean Doyle, Head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, at a press briefing in Hanoi on June 2 to make public its annual report on EU development in Vietnam.
Blue Book 2011 affirms that the EU remains one of Vietnam’s leading donors with a total amount of 680 million euros in non-refundable aid.
The book gives an overview of development cooperation between the EU and Vietnam and provides orientations for development policies, especially in connection with poverty reduction.
Doyle said Vietnam is considered one of the countries using EU aid packages most effectively and therefore, it has received the largest amount of aid in the world.
The EU’s aid packages in recent times have helped Vietnam build infrastructure and improve the quality of human resources.
However, the EU delegation insisted that Vietnam should narrow the widening gaps of inequality and pay due attention to disadvantaged groups in society.
Other representatives of EU countries highlighted the Vietnamese government’s effective measures to curb inflation, stabilize the domestic currency and combat dollarization of the economy, which, they said, would help Vietnam achieve the goal of becoming a modern industrialized country by 2020. – VOV
