Electricity output up 9.3pct in Q1

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has recently said that the country’s total electricity output in Q1 2011 was estimated to reach 22.7 billion kWh, increasing 9.3 percent against the same period last year.

Previously, EVN expected to raise this year’s total electricity output to 112.6 billion kWh, growing 15.8 percent year-on-year, including both domestic electricity production and power purchase from China.

EVN also said that Vietnam will have to suffer an electricity shortage of about 3 billion kWh this year due to low water level at reservoirs.

Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) forecasted the country’s electricity demand will increase 14 percent this year to gain the economic growth target of 7-7.5 percent against the growth of 6.78 percent in last year.
