Electricity output rises 9.3% in Q1 2011

Vietnam electricity output reached 22.7 billion kWh, up 9.3% on year in the first quarter, the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), the biggest power supplier,said.

Despite this hike, Vietnam still saw an electricity shortage in this period. Power shortage is forecast to reach roughly 3 billion kWh this year, EVN said.

Meanwhile, the domestic demand of electricity is expected to rise 14% this year in order to meet the government’s economic growth target.

Total electricity output is predicted to rise by 15.8% on-year to 112.6 billion in 2011, including domestic production and imported power from China, EVN said.

Earlier on March 1, the domestic retail prices of electricity have increased by 15.28% or average electricity price of VND1,242/kWh(excluding VAT). – Stoxplus.com
