Eighth mobile network may be started in Aug
Indochina Telecom will have to officially provide mobile telecom services to the market from this August as per the deadline, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Viet Nam Online reported.
On August 19, 2009, Ministry of Information and Telecommunication granted the establishment license to Indochina Telecom. As ruled, two years after receiving the license, the firm will have to provide services in the market.
So, in this August, Indochina Telecom may be started, becoming the eigth telecom firm in Vietnam along with Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone, S-Fone, Vietnamobile, EVN Telecom and Beeline.
Earlier, Vice Minister of Information and Telecommunication Le Nam Thang said that Indochina Telecom would use 3G technology-based network with Viettel, transfer region service to GSM (2G; 2.5G), and provide mobile telecom services to domestic and foreign users.
Right after being licensed, Indochina Telecom leaders shared, the mobile network will be operational till the end of 2009, but the firm missed the date because of difficulties in cooperation negotiations with Viettel.
Currently, an internal source of Indochina Telecom said that the firm would use the prefix 099 (with 0998 and 0999) and share the 3G layer with Viettel to provide basic mobile services and value added services with an aim to create a difference in the telecommunication market generally and in the mobile telecom segment particularly.
As stated by the firm’s Deputy General Director Pham Anh Chien, by Q3 of 2011, Indochina Telecom will officially provide mobile services with the prefiex 099. If the plan is conducted on time, Vietnam will have eight mobile service providers, promosing a busier market and a fiercer competition.
