Dung Quat records output of 2 million tons

Dung Quat, Vietnam’s first oil refinery, has produced a total of two million tons of oil products, 1.7 tons of which have been sold, says a senior official.

Dung Quat records output of 2 million tons

Nguyen Hoai Giang, general director of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company, a PetroVietnam unit that manages the 140,000-bpd Dung Quat plant, said more than 2.55 tons of crude oil have been bought for the refinery’s production.

The plant, located in the central province of Quang Ngai, was running properly at its full capacity as of Tuesday, Giang said.

Dung Quat resumed operations in mid of January after technical problems closed the facility for 20 days, which was the second shutdown since it began operations last February.

Vietnam’s crude oil exports this year are expected to fall as state-owned oil and gas group PetroVietnam has said it will set aside 5 million tons to supply to Dung Quat.

The country is developing the 200,000-barrel-per-day Nghi Son refinery in the northern province of Thanh Hoa. The new refinery, scheduled to be completed in late 2013, and Dung Quat will together be able to supply 80 percent of domestic demand for oil products, it is estimated.
