DHL Grows 30 Pct in Q1 of 2010

On the recent visit to Vietnam to attend the launching ceremony of a US$5 million state of the art HCM Gateway at new Tan Son Nhat Cargo Express Service airside facility, Mr John Pearson, CEO of DHL Asia Pacific and EEMEA revealed that in tandem with Vietnam’s growth, DHL Express Vietnam’s volumes grew more than 30 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2010 and is tipped to grow even further by year end.

According to Mr John Pearson, as a result of Vietnam’s positive attitude to foreign direct investment, more than 100 of DHL’s global customers are already here and more are either are setting up shop in Vietnam or increasing their investment in the country.

Since entering joint venture with VNPT, the company has invested US$14 million in constructing infrastructure, gateways, services centers, etc. In addition, it has improved overall CO2 efficiency in Vietnam by 29 per cent year-on-year and despite expanding its facilities in 2009, CO2 emissions dropped by 0.23 million kilograms (13.9 per cent lower year-on-year). Overall, DHL Express reduced CO2 emissions by 13 million kilograms in FY2009. – VCCI
