Deputy PM urges hastening of port removal

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has told HCM City authorities to complete its detailed master plan for the west bank of the Sai Gon River by the year-end so that the Ba Son Shipyard and seaports can be moved from downtown.

The deputy prime minister said the city must also find investment resources to build a road system linked to the new Hiep Phuoc port.

Hai asked the Transport Ministry to expand Highway No 51 and finish it before 2012, and develop an investment plan for the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau highway. He added that HCM City should focus on improving the 25B inter-provincial road in order to end traffic congestion near the Cat Lai seaport. — VNS
