Dak Lak, Champasak deepen cooperation

Vietnam’s Central Highland province of Dak Lak and Laos’ Champasak province will cooperate in economic, cultural and social development for the 2011-2015 period under a MoU signed on February 27.

The two provinces reached the agreement following the effective implementation of three earlier cooperation deals.

Under a US$50 million project to grow rubber, cashew and cocoa trees in the Lao provinces of Champasak, Salavan and Atopu, the Dak Lak Rubber Company has disbursed US$38 million.

In Champasak province, the company has planted 5,663 hectares of long-term industrial crops, including 4,856 hectares of rubber trees, 574 hectares of cashew and 233 hectares of coffee and generated jobs for 2,372 local workers.

Many businesses from the Dak Lak province have also invested in tourism, traffic routes, schools, factories and electricity generation in Lao rural areas. – VOV
