Da Nang takes lead in ICT index

Da Nang topped the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Index for the third consecutive year.

This marks the sixth year Da Nang has been listed among the top five cities and provinces across the country in term of readiness for ICT application and development.

According to a report released by the Office of the National Steering Committee for Information Technology and the Vietnam Association for Information Processing, Ho Chi Minh City secured second place and the northern province of Bac Ninh ranked third.

The report also said that Da Nang ranked second in the fields of ICT production and trading after Bac Ninh province, and third in the fields of human resources, organisational environment and policy.

The Vietnamese Government and the World Bank recently decided to fund an additional US$10 million for an ICT development sub-project which had been underway in the city for six years, bringing the total fund to US$27.3 million.

The municipal People’s Committee has invested in infrastructure for the local software park, helping operate over 40 news websites and other ICT systems and meeting the computerisation demand of branches of State organisations.

A teleconference system has been put in place at the provincial People’s Committee, seven districts and two departments in the locality.
