Construction work starts on Nghi Son 1 thermal power plant
Mr Dung highlighted the significance of the 600 MW plant, saying it will play an important role in ensuring an adequate supply of electricity for the Nghi Son economic zone in Thanh Hoa. With an estimated investment of VND22 billion, the Nghi Son 1 power project will be completed in 2013 with annual output of 3.6 billion kWh.
He urged the Ministry of Industry and Trade and other relevant agencies to complete procedures for building the Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant, with a design capacity of 1,200 MW, also in Thanh Hoa.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Government, PM Dung thanked the Japanese government and people for granting a large amount of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam over the past years, especially for infrastructure development. He expressed his hope that Japan would continue to support Vietnam in the future.
The same day, Mr Dung visited a resettlement area, a site for construction of an oil refinery, and Nghi Son port.
