Construction on Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant project stands still
Tran Thi Binh, vice general director of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam – PVN) announced to halt the construction project of Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant due to some arising problems relating to ground clearance works.
At present, the group is working closely with Thai Binh province people’s committee to resolve the difficulty. After the ground has already been cleared, PetroVietnam will cooperate with foreign partners and PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corp (PVX) to set up general EPC contractor for carrying out the project.
Thai Binh 2 thermo power plant is one part of Thai Binh Power Centre to be sited in an area of 254 hectares in My Loc Commune, Thai Thuy Dist, Thai Binh province. There will be two thermo power plants: Thai Binh 1 thermo power plant (600 MW) will be carried out by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) as the main investor and the second thermo power plant (1,200 MW) of PVN.
By the end of May 2010, the total land area that has already been compensated for ground clearance to construct Thai Binh Power Centre was 265.5 hectares, including the area for traffic roads to the centre). However, since May, some households in My Loc Commune disagreed with the compensation and supporting charges of 102,000 dong per square metres, and refused to hand over the background, resulting in gross loss for investors and contractors.
Up to September 8, 2010, there were 703 out of 1,244 households or 56.5 percent coming to the local people’s committee to receive the paid compensation charges.
