Construction on Saigon 2 bridge starts in September

Nguyen Thanh Thai, general director of Phu My Investment and Construction Joint Stock Co (PMC – formerly known as Phu My Bridge BOT Joint Stock Co) said on Jun 16 that the company would kick off the construction project of Saigon Bridge No 2 after finishing all the legal procedures by the end of this month.

The total investment capital for this project was posted at over 2.4 trillion dong. When the construction is completed, Saigon Bridge No 2 will help reduce traffic jam for the current Saigon Bridge as well as the key road from Hanoi Highway to the centre of HCM City.

As planned, the construction work was supposed to get started in April 2010, however, due to some arising problems relating to overlapping road charge collection to return the investment capital for the investor by 2013, PMC decided to change the investment method under BT method (building – transferring), instead of BOT method (Building-Operating-Transferring).
