Construction of southern coastal corridor begins
The road has the length of 950 km running from Bangkok, Thailand, through Cambodia to Ca Mau City of Vietnam. Of which, the sections on Vietnam’s territory are about 217 km in length, including parts of the national highways of 80, 61 and 63.
Total investment for these sections is US $398 million sourced from preferential loans of the Republic of Korea, Asian Development Bank, non-refundable aid of Australian Government, and Vietnam’s corresponding capital.
Of the investment capital, the Minh Luong – Thu Bay section and two bridges over Cai Lon and Cai Be rivers cost about US $50 million. Meanwhile, the Rach Gia section has a total investment of over US $82 million.
After being put into operation, the subprojects will facilitate the flows of passengers and goods through the international border-gate of Ha Tien, boost marine-borne economic growth and poverty reduction of the southern coastal provinces of Vietnam.
Along with other key infrastructure works like Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong highway, Can Tho and Rach Mieu bridges, the southern coastal corridor project will form an important road network for the Mekong Delta to promote sustainable economic development and regional cooperation.
