Cement consusumption falls as building slows
The country used 19.67 million tonnes of cement in the first five months of the year, 39 per cent of the annual target, according to the Ministry of Construction.
In May, the volume reached 4.3 million tonnes, a decrease of 14.2 per cent compared to the previous month.
The ministry explained that rising steel prices were to blame for the drop in construction work.
According to the ministry, the country’s demand for cement is estimated at about 50 million tonnes in 2010, an increase of 11 per cent over 2009.
