Cathay purchases more modern airplanes
Cathay Pacific Airways said it will purchase 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, and plans to exercise purchase rights for six Boeing 777-300ERs. This will not only improve the quality of aircraft fleet, but also bring the best experience to customers.
The A350s, powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, can fly continuously 8,000 miles, enabling Cathay Pacific to reach its broad route network, including nonstop flights to Europe and North America.
New-generation Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines help Cathay Pacific optimise aircraft operating costs in relation to aircrafts of the same size, and reaffirm the commitment to making flights greener and improve service quality with broader space and more seat area.
The airline reported HK$41,337 million of revenues and HK$6,840 million profit in 2010, compared with only HK$812 million in the same period of 2009 – the black time of the aviation industry. – VCCI
