Cashew Trading Floor Opens March 20
Vietnam will open the first cashew trading floor on March 20, 2010, featuring electronic trading and continuous order matching.
Mr Bui Van Thach, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Binh Phuoc province, said: Individuals, producers and traders must open accounts and deposit if they want to join the cashew trading floor. The inaugural ceremony will coincide with the opening of the Vietnam Golden Cashew Trading Floor – Binh Phuoc 2010.â€Â
According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, after applying standards cashew nut processes in December 2009, Vietnam now has 72 plants meeting the national food safety and hygiene requirements (or 60 %). This is the ground for Vietnam to enhance the reputation and quality of exported cashew nuts.
Since 2006, Vietnam outstripped India to become the largest exporter of cashew nut in the world. According to the Vietnam Cashew Association, Vietnam earned US$850 million from cashew nut exports in 2009 and expects at US$1 billion in 2010.
Currently, the country has a total cashew cultivation area of 450,000 ha, including 45 % in Binh Phuoc, and 200 processing factories.
