Cashew imports overcome shortfall
The country will have to import 300,000 tonnes of cashews for production this year, an increase of 50,000 tonnes compared with the previous year, to meet the demands for exported cashew processing of domestic enterprises.
This year, the association has forecast cashew output would reach just 300,000 tonnes, a decrease of 50,000 tonnes over 2009 due to bad weather.
While prices will increase sharply in the near future as a result of crop failures, demand for processed cashew is expected to surge.
