Campaign promoting VN products ‘a success’
The “Vietnamese prioritise made-in-Viet Nam products” campaign has earned good results since it kicked off a year ago, said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai at a conference organised in Ha Noi yesterday.
Consumers had bought more Vietnamese products, which had helped increase the competitiveness of made-in-Viet Nam goods and allowed the domestic market to develop, said Hai.
A report released by the campaign’s steering committee shows that domestic products at HCM City supermarkets now accounts for 95 per cent of the products on sale.
The consumption of Vietnamese products in Sai Gon Co-op supermarkets, one of the biggest chains in the country, during the first half of 2010 was reported to have increased by 55 per cent against the same period in 2009.
The campaign had a positive influence on the whole society by increasing consumers and organisations’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities toward domestic products, said Hai.
“This has helped change their attitudes, in which people are giving Vietnamese brands priority,” he added.
The steering committee said the campaign also pushed Vietnamese enterprises to take the lead in developing their own businesses, producing products of good quality and it had helped lower prices. Businesses had expanded their distribution networks and sales services.
The Deputy Prime Minister agreed with the measures proposed by the steering committee to bring the campaign to every single locality, residential area and citizen in the time to come, but he said the campaign would need more attention from leaders at all levels.
The proposed measures included intensifying the advertisement of the campaign in densely-inhabited areas, stepping up the fight against trafficking, and making recommendations to create more favourable conditions for the production, circulation and consumption of domestic products.
“The campaign is of great significance, even in the long run. It will aid the sustainable development of enterprises and the country,” said Hai.—VNS
