Ca Na steel project attracts infrastructure developers
There are now a number of foreign investors showing interest in infrastructure development of industrial zone on the land area of Ca Na steel complex project, which Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee has recently decided to withdraw investment license due to the investors faced financial difficulties, according to the Ninh Thuan provincial authorities.
In a talk with the Saigon Economic Times Online, Truong Xuan Vy, Director of Economic Development Office of Ninh Thuan province (EDO Ninh Thuan), said these investors are from Korea and Japan. They want to develop the infrastructure of industrial park as well as call for investment in building the plant on the land area of Ca Na steel complex project that province is converting into industrial zone as approved by the Prime Minister.
According to Vy, this industrial park is expected to cover an area of 1,000 hectares instead of 1,650 hectares of the whole Ca Na steel complex project as the initial plan.
Representative of Ninh Thuan Department of Planning and Investment also confirmed this information and said that with convenient location of Ca Na steel complex project, Japanese and Korean investors have proposed to invest in infrastructure to attract investors in the province’s prioritized areas such as clean and environmentally friendly production together with a deep water port.
Ca Na steel complex project with a total registered investment capital of $9.8 billion invested by the Lion – Vinashin joint venture has been revoked license as the investor had delayed the construction and suffered financial inability. The project had been licensed by the province in 2008 with an estimated capacity of 4.5 million tons of hot rolled steel/year, two thermal power plants with total capacity of 750 MW and one standby power plant with capacity of 700 MW and one seaport with handling capacity of 15 million tons/year.
Previously, in February 2011, the Prime Minister agreed to withdraw the investment certificate of Ca Na steel complex project and convert the project into Ca Na industrial park. – Vietbiz24
