Blue-ear pig disease spreads to 17 localities
By August 8, 17 cities and provinces confirmed outbreaks of blue-ear pig disease, according to the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
On August 7, the Hau Giang provincial Department of Animal Health sent a report to the MARD stating that samples taken from pigs at farms in Hiep Loi village, Nga Bay town, tested positive for the blue-ear virus. More than 200 pigs were affected with the disease.
Localities have spent billions of VND on preventing the spread of the disease since early June. Ho Chi Minh City has proposed investing VND7 billion in preventive efforts, but the disease shows no signs of abating in the surrounding areas.
