Blue-ear pig disease rampant in Dong Nai
Dong Nai has reported outbreaks of blue-ear pig disease in its mountain district of Dinh Quan, bringing the total localities in the province to 9 out of 11.
Only two districts – Xuan Loc and Thong Nhat have not reported any cases of the disease but many pigs belonging to local people have died of unknown causes.
The disease has spread widely in the province and nearly 19,000 of its 1.4 million pigs have been already culled.
The provincial Department of Animal Health has been working closely with district authorities carry out preventive measures and vaccinate the remaining pigs. They have also tightened control of the transport and trade of pigs and pork meat and confiscate products of unknown origin.
Local villagers in Trang Bom and Xuan Loc have disposed of their dead pigs by dumping them on the roadside or in rubber plantations, causing environmental pollution and making the disease to spread easily. – VOV
